No matter what you do for a living, I’ll bet you get a little burnt out at times, right?
A little frazzled? A little too plugged in?
Heck, that even happens to me and I live in the woods. Which is why a weekend getaway to unplug, unwind, and connect to the things that matter most is KEY in these modern lives we lead.
Unfortunately, the stress of planning a getaway can sometimes squash the entire intention behind it in the first place. Where should we go? Where should we stay? How much will it cost? What is there to do in the local area? What about meals? Where’s the best restaurant?
If you’re not a planner type of person, these questions can make your head spin! I know, I’ve been there!
Let me help by laying out a dreamy Minnesota getaway for you!
We’ll start with the big question:
If you’re a Minnesotan, you probably know how dreamy the landscape is from Duluth to Grand Marais along highway 61! That is, in my opinion, where you should book your getaway!
Recently, two of my girlfriends (Jordan and Emily) and I went on a weekend getaway of our own with Cascade Vacation Rentals to the quaint town of Lutsen, Minnesota!
Lutsen is situated 20 miles down the shore from Grand Marais, making it just shy of a two-hour drive north from Duluth.
The drive along the shore is stunning and once you arrive you will not be short of things to do!
Now that we’ve narrowed it down to the 100 mile stretch of hwy 61, you’ve got so so so many options for accommodation. Airbnb, hotel, vacation rental, campground…this is the most challenging part for me!
However, along the north shore, I have found the perfect solution – Cascade Vacation Rentals. They’ve got lots of options (170+ to be exact) that all feel like you’ve rented an Airbnb but you get a service similar to staying in a hotel!
Their mission is to help you “reconnect to what’s important”…how perfect is that! This is literally what we’re talking about in this post. CVR just gets it, which I certainly appreciate.
That being said, 170+ rentals might still be too big of a pond to choose from. Not a problem for the folks at Cascade. Give them a call and they’ll help you narrow it down OR you can stay at the exact same townhome Jordan, Emily and I stayed in:
The Aspenwood Townhomes (specifically townhome 6526)
Hop on over to my Instagram highlight to see a walkthrough!
Cascade Vacation Rentals has generously given me a discount code to share with you so you can reconnect to what matters to YOU!
Use code GETAWAY for 20% off your stay now through May 31st, 2020! *Some exclusions apply but the majority of their 170+ rentals are up for grabs.
You guys…even I was impressed when they presented me with this promo code. Also, important to note, this is not an affiliate code. I do not make a commission if you use it. I just want you to save some money and have a lovely and relaxing escape to the Northwoods!
So. Much.
If you do decide to stay in the Lutsen area, you will not be lacking things to do. Here is a glimpse of what Jordan, Emily and I did during our getaway:
The big draw of the Lutsen area is Lutsen Mountains, some of the best skiing & snowboarding in the Midwest! We spent all day Saturday on Moose Mountain.
After a day of skiing, we drove one mile to North Shore Winery to indulge in a wine tasting. This winery is one of my favorite stops along the north shore! Pro tip: If you like chocolate you HAVE TO order the truffle flight along with your wine tasting!
If you want the ultimate indulgence, book a day at the Waves of Superior Spa! Jordan and Emily both had deep tissue massages (rave reviews from both of them) and I had a sugar scrub (the perfect winter spa treatment).
After a handful of north shore getaways, I’ve formed a strong opinion on where to eat on the north shore!
My favorite restaurants are:
If you’re familiar with the north shore you might be thinking, “Wait but you’re missing a bunch of restaurants!” Remember, I said these are my favorites.
If you’re staying for the weekend, my tip would be to intentionally pack groceries for one meal (maybe more). If you’re staying with Cascade Vacation Rentals, you won’t need things like salt and pepper (their pantry seemed to be well stocked as far as vacation rentals go) and you’ll have a full kitchen so why not?!
The point of a getaway to the north shore is to reconnect with the things (and people) you value, what better way to do that than having a slow evening in to cook a meal!
There you have it – the perfect Minnesota cabin getaway plan. Whether you’ve got a whole gaggle of kiddos or it’s just you and your hunny, this plan has you covered.
