Winter

Current Season:

Vibes.

slow, cozy, contemplative, yin, restful, still, grounded, satiating

Self-care.

sleep longer, simple meditation, gentle yoga, warm beverages, cozy layers, make space for being unproductive (you heard me, woman)

activities.

walking/easy hiking, snowshoeing, dog sledding, ice skating, skiing, wildlife watching, reading by the window

Routines.

decrease the intensity of your workout routine, focus on cultivating a dreamy bedtime routine, prioritize time with family, make space for yourself to just be

Diet.

nourishing comfort foods, slow cooked, hearty grains, soups, stews, warm spices, red wine rather than beer, saltier + more bitter foods than in summer

planning.

Minimal goal setting + planning, more day dreaming, less hustling. Winter is our opportunity to rest + recharge so we can plan in the spring, execute in summer, and harvest in autumn.

I’ve learned lots of lessons since moving to my cabin and mother nature has been the teacher for the majority of them. My favorite being, you guessed it, goal-setting! Or maybe you didn’t guess it. I know, goal-setting probably wasn’t the obvious answer there. Let me break it down for ya – I’ve noticed that […]

There are lots of wonderful *and very common* cures for cabin fever! I’m sure you know a few of them: get lost in a book, get outside, pick up a new hobby, eat healthier, take a bath, get some exercise, have folks over. But right now, we need specific, actionable, and mindful ways to cure […]

How to Plan Your Own Cabin Getaway

Recently, I’ve had a lot of people asking me how they can get outdoors more this winter, which makes me smile! I’m so happy you’re wanting to brave the chill of winter. To help you do that, I’ve spent some time thinking about how I get my booty outside even in chilly weather. I’ve distilled […]

10 Tips to Help You Get Outdoors More This Winter

I bet you’re starting to see a lot of Christmas gift-giving guides and holiday sale advertisements popping up, aren’t you? Lots of chatter about Black Friday? The other day, I was talking to my dear friend, Pam, about the expectations of gift-giving this holiday season. She mentioned a friend who isn’t giving gifts this year […]

My Unpopular Opinion About Holiday Gift-Giving

2am – Why am I wide awake? Sound familiar? This used to happen to me A LOT (and occasionally still does). That’s back when I didn’t have much of an evening ritual. I would wake up in the middle of the night, after hours of surface-level sleep, with my mind racing. When that happens it’s […]

6 Tips to Create a Cozy Evening Ritual

I posted about the “Slow Living” Movement on a recent Instagram post and had so many great responses to it. I asked people to tell me everything they know about slow living and, it turns out, lots of folks wanted to know more…so here we are! Now, I don’t claim to have this whole slow […]

“Slow Living” – What You Need to Know

We’re trying something new this week, folks! I’ve had quite a few people ask me what my morning routine is like and if I might consider making a fun morning routine video. So, ta da! In all my rookie videographer glory, I’ve put together a little glimpse into my life, waking up in a 200 […]

My Winter Morning Routine

One of my favorite ways to “take a bath” (remember I live in the woods) is to take a sauna! Every week, I try to fire up the wood stove in my old sauna and relax for 30 minutes to an hour. “Why? Isn’t that a lot of work?” It isn’t as easy as turning […]

How (and Why) I Sauna Every Week
